World Metrology Day 2025 – “Measurements for all times, for all people”
20. 05. 2025
This year’s World Metrology Day, celebrated on May 20th, is dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the signing of the Metre Convention (1875). This historic event marked the beginning of international cooperation in the field of measurement and laid the foundation for today’s globally harmonized SI system.
On May 20th, 1875, representatives of 17 countries signed one of the first international conventions in Paris—the Metre Convention. Austria-Hungary, where Slovenians lived at the time, was also among the signatories.
This year’s theme, “Measurements for all times, for all people,” highlights the vital role of metrology – in science, industry, international trade, and everyday life. Measurements are not just numbers – they are the foundation of trust, quality, and safety.
The official celebration in Slovenia is taking place today at Hotel Bernardin in Portorož, where we are also participating. The SiMER Section, coordinated by the Chamber of Electrical Industry, is showcasing simple and engaging measurements that help visitors understand the importance of precise and reliable measurements.
The event features a speech by the Minister of the Economy, Tourism and Sport, Matjaž Han, along with other speakers from the Metrology Institute of the Republic of Slovenia, industry, and the professional community.
We are proud to have contributed to the development of metrology at home and abroad for over 30 years – with knowledge, dedication, and a vision for the future.
